Inspiration

Whether they are

fellow bloggers, fellow survivors, or published authors,

I'm proud to honor those who have been a guiding light in the dark,

helping to illuminate the crumbs along the path I walk.

Exemplifying strength, bravery, and vulnerability, they inspire me daily and foster a sense of belonging.

Mental health recovery can be collaborative when you find what feels safe and who feels safe.

You don't have to do this alone.

I met Anginet as my wedding photographer back in 2016, before either of us really knew what we were dealing with mentally. After going into psychosis in 2017 and receiving a diagnosis, Anginet embarked on a new path and is now a peer support specialist, discussing mental health with others and providing support on a daily basis. The two of us reconnected, supporting one another while navigating life with our many parts within. Anginet is a courageous example of what it looks like to own who you are, wholeheartedly. She makes a conscious daily effort to destigmatize mental illness and be a voice for others. She shares her story through words, imagery, music, and puppets. You can read more about her here on her blog, The Bipolar Puppet, or follow her on socials above.

The example Anginet is setting is beyond admirable and heartwarming; I am so thankful for her!

There is SO much to say about Brené that I haven't yet been able to put into words the impact she and her research have had on my life. The words she has written and spoken have given me the vocabulary necessary to know and express myself in ways that inspire me to keep moving forward. Her TEDTalks on vulnerability and shame are what first inspired me to seek out her books. From the long list of highly-recommended best sellers, Daring Greatly and Atlas of the Heart have each played a key supporting role in my healing journey. Her podcast Unlocking Us has driven my healing further by introducing me to more invaluable resources such as Untamed by Glennon Doyle.

While listening to Brené Brown's podcast, Unlocking Us, Brené interviews Glennon Doyle on her new book, Untamed. I didn't know who this Glennon was, but everything she said resonated with me and caused a rise in me. After listening to the podcast episode, and having a friend coincidentally lend me her copy of Untamed, I followed the crumbs and now have a new guiding light and source of inspiration. Glennon is refreshingly honest and vulnerable, and has a way of writing and talking in metaphors that makes things relatable. I highly recommend the Untamed audiobook on Audible, read by Glennon herself. She also has a podcast; We Can Do Hard Things with Glennon Doyle, which is incredibly insightful and inspiring, as she and sister Amanda dive into the reality and complexities of life. Give it a listen here on Spotify, and remember, "We Can Do Hard Things."
